About Grateful Head Salon
Grateful Head was founded by Lysa Fina, a barber’s daughter, and Stacy Stray, a true rock ’n’ roll rebel. They connected through their shared love of music and passion for hairstyling. During a summer in college, Fina followed the Grateful Dead on tour and promised a fellow Deadhead she’d one day name her dream salon after the band. That dream came to life in 2006 when she and Stray transformed an abandoned space near Trinity Bellwoods Park on Dundas Street West into their first salon. With the help of friends, and paid in beer and sandwiches, they spent 12 weeks gutting and renovating the space. On April 1, 2006, Grateful Head officially opened its doors, kicking off an incredible journey. In 2011, Fina moved the salon to the vibrant Roncesvalles Village neighborhood, breathing new life into a heritage building. With the creative eye of decorator Nancy Niksic, the space became a true home for Fina and her team. Known for its goth-glam vibe, the salon has been featured in various design magazines and blogs, perfectly reflecting the eclectic, music-loving, artistic, tattooed stylists behind the scissors. Then, in the fall of 2014, Fina returned to Dundas Street West, opening a sister location called Grateful Head & Co. This spot also houses “Sugar Mag” music studio, making it a creative hub where Fina and the Grateful team continue to blend their passion for hair, music, and art.
