About The Leela Mumbai
The Leela Mumbai opened its doors in 1986. While searching for land in Mumbai to build his first hotel, he and his wife came across an 11-acre plot near the international airport. At the time, there was nothing commercial nearby except a taxi stand serving airport travelers. His wife Leela had a strong intuition that travelers arriving at the airport would need a place to stay, which inspired him to take on the challenge of building a luxury hotel — even without conducting a formal market survey. To this day, no other hotel in Mumbai covers such a large area as The Leela Mumbai. At 64, when most people would consider slowing down, Capt. Nair worked tirelessly to complete the hotel in under three years. A visionary and passionate marketer, he also understood the importance of promoting the brand internationally from the very beginning.
