The Vesper Club has been a Philadelphia social landmark for over a century. In 1941, it settled into a cozy two-story spot on Sydenham Street, serving as a private dining club that attracted a unique mix of politicians, mobsters, and business leaders. Regulars included Mayor Frank Rizzo, mob boss Angelo Bruno, GOP boss Billy Meehan, former Eagles owner Leonard Tose, and DJ Jerry Blavat. It was the go-to place for Philadelphia’s elite, where more business deals were sealed than anywhere else in the state. While many historic private clubs in the city—like the Downtown Club, Alpha Club, Locust Club, Engineers Club, and Commerce Club—have closed over the years, the Vesper Club has evolved. In 2012, it moved just across Sydenham Street to the building now known as the Racquet Club. Though the building was in rough shape, the club was completely modernized while still keeping its classic charm. Then, in 2017, new owners gave the Vesper Club a fresh start as the Vesper Sporting Club—the first of its kind in Philadelphia. With massive 4K screens throughout the dining room, it offers an unmatched sports viewing experience alongside great food and drinks. Today, the Vesper Sporting Club blends rich history with a lively atmosphere where the excitement of the game meets a legendary party vibe.
