Cake+Loaf came to life over a coffee date that felt like the perfect clash of worlds. Josie and Nickey first crossed paths in the Bakery Apprentice Class at Niagara College. Bonding over their shared love for baking and their hometown of Hamilton, they quickly realized they had a dream in common: to own and run their own bakery. It was entrepreneurial love at first sight. Their vision was straightforward – they wanted to build a small business that creates meaningful jobs, fosters creativity, and brings together an amazing team in a vibrant environment. Their passion for food and commitment to sustainability also shaped everything they do. When all these pieces clicked, they knew their bakery would become a beloved spot in the Kirkendall neighborhood. From the beginning, their goal was to offer employees a creative, energetic, and environmentally conscious workplace where careers could grow. They’re proud to say they hit a major milestone early on by paying a living wage—something that means a lot to them and will always be central to how they plan for the future. After all, their team is the heart and soul of their little slice of pie. They’re deeply grateful for the support and love from their community. Without it, none of this would be possible.
