About Fannie May
The very first Fannie May store was opened by H. Teller Archibald back in 1920 at 11 N. LaSalle St. in Chicago. By 1935, the brand had grown to nearly forty stores across Illinois and nearby states. During World War II, when many companies altered their recipes due to ingredient shortages, Fannie May stayed true to its original recipes. They only made as much candy as the ingredients allowed, sometimes even closing stores early when supplies ran out—but they never compromised on the taste.
