About Jack Duggans Irish Pub
The Commercial Hotel on George Street in Bathurst, NSW, was purchased in 2008 and impressively renovated in just three weeks before reopening as Jack Duggan’s Irish Pub. The pub is owned and run by Irish publican Glyn Daunt and his wife Helen, alongside celebrated Irish chef Shannon Barrett and restaurant manager Peter Barrett. The name Jack Duggan’s was chosen to honor the strong Irish-Australian heritage and history behind it. “We wanted to create a genuine Irish pub that also feels like a welcoming Aussie local,” says Glyn Daunt. “Helen grew up just a few miles from Castlemaine, the Irish birthplace of Jack Duggan—the Wild Colonial Boy. According to the Australian folk song, Jack even escaped from Bathurst Gaol! We loved how this legendary bushranger connects Ireland and Australia, especially right here in Bathurst.”
