About Blue Collar Brewery
Our brewery and brewpub story began back in the late 1980s when we were home brewers, a father and son bonding over the craft. Brewing quickly became more than just a hobby—it turned into a passion that stayed with us through the ups and downs of life and other ventures. What started as simple experiments to spend quality time together has now grown into a full-time commitment that keeps us close. Interestingly, over time, the brewing expertise shifted to the son, who’s now a professional brewer with credentials from the University of California, Davis. In April 2013, we decided to turn our loosely sketched plans into a real business and started looking for the perfect spot. We wanted a place with history—somewhere that once symbolized American innovation and manufacturing strength. After searching through three states, we found our gem right in our hometown of Poughkeepsie, NY: a sturdy, fortress-like building from around 1882. Over the years, it had been home to meat packing, paper and box storage, and even a garment factory. We had a clear vision for 40 Cottage Street’s interior, and through careful demolition, restoration, and the hard work of many skilled tradespeople, that vision is coming to life. We’ve created what we like to call a “Blue Collar” atmosphere—a welcoming, no-frills gathering spot where you can relax and enjoy American craft products without any pretension. We hope you’ll feel right at home here.
